In oktober vorig jaar verliet Keiji Inafune Capcom, na meer dan twintig jaar trouwe dienst. In die tijd bracht hij onder meer Mega Man, Onimusha en Dead Rising. Meer recent hielp hij nog bij de productie van Super Street Fighter IV, Lost Planet 2 en Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective.
Zijn vertrek kwam aanvankelijk als een schok, maar volgens Ryota Niitsuma, producer van Marvel vs. Capcom 3, laat de man geen zwart gat achter. Integendeel, Capcom zou inmiddels veel hechter samenhangen.
“By him leaving the company I think it has made the company a lot closer – we’re a lot tighter in terms of relationships,” he said.
“I think we’ll be able to fill the gap together with better teamwork; in terms of pure talent we have a lot of talented creators and programmers in the company, so I don’t see that as a problem at all.”
Although Inafune’s sudden change of life remains somewhat mysterious, Niitsuma did comment that “there’s no point him staying in the company if he thinks what he’s doing isn’t right and doesn’t fit his creative aspirations.”
Sterke relaties binnen het team van Capcom dus, hopelijk komt dat de kwaliteit alleen maar ten goede.
